10 people died due to collision between bus and tanker, fire in Chitradurga, Karnataka.
A heart-wrenching road accident took place in the early hours of Thursday on National Highway 48 in Chitradurga district of Karnataka, which has shocked the entire country. Here near Gorlathu village there was a massive collision between a speeding fuel tanker and a luxury sleeper bus. The collision was so severe that the bus immediately caught fire. According to police and eyewitnesses, more than 10 people have died tragically in this accident, while many others have been injured. The accident occurred when most of the passengers were in deep sleep.
The fuel tanker collided with the bus after breaking the divider, after the collision a terrible fire broke out and many passengers were burnt alive inside the bus.
According to initial investigation and information received from police officials, the accident occurred when the fuel tanker suddenly went out of control. The tanker broke the divider and came to the other side of the road and collided with a luxury bus coming from the front. As soon as the collision occurred, the bus became a ball of fire. There were a total of 32 passengers in the bus who were going to Gokarna. The fire spread so fast that the passengers did not even get a chance to get out and many people were burnt alive inside the vehicle. The Inspector General of Police (Eastern Zone) has confirmed that the bodies of most of the deceased were badly burnt.
The school bus passing nearby also got involved in the accident, but the lives of 48 children were saved, the driver became an eyewitness.
A miracle was also witnessed during this horrific incident. At the time when this accident occurred, a school bus going from T. Dasarahalli towards Dandeli was also passing by. This bus was moving parallel to the burning bus and after the collision, it also collided with it. It is fortunate that all the 48 students traveling in the school bus are completely safe and there was no harm to them. Police officials said that the driver of the school bus is the main eyewitness of this entire incident and the police is recording his statement so that the real reason behind the accident can be found out.
The death toll in the accident is expected to increase, badly burnt injured were sent to Bengaluru for treatment.
Police officials said that in the investigation so far, more than 10 deaths have been confirmed, but this figure may increase. The tanker driver has also been killed in the accident. The condition of the injured remains critical. An injured passenger, whose body has suffered burns up to 20 per cent, has been referred to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru for better treatment. Police and rescue teams are present at the spot and further investigation is underway. Efforts are also being made to identify the dead bodies because the bodies have been badly mutilated due to the fire.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the accident, announced compensation for the families of the deceased and the injured.

Along with this, assistance amount has also been announced by the government. An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
