1000 km new railway line will be laid in Bihar, good news for these districts

Patna. The railway network, which is considered the heartbeat of Bihar’s economy and common life, may see major changes in the coming years. The Central Government has set a target of laying about 1000 kilometers of new railway lines in the state by the year 2031. Under this ambitious plan, work is proposed on 30 big projects, which include 10 new railway lines and doubling of 20 important railway sections.

Big preparations on DDU-Patna-Jhajha section

One of the most important projects is the plan to lay the third and fourth lines on the DDU-Patna-Jhajha railway section. This route is already extremely busy, with pressure from express and goods trains. Construction of additional lines will reduce the latency of trains and separate tracks will be available for both passenger and freight transportation. Doubling between Phulwari-Patliputra Junction rail section has also been given priority to reduce traffic pressure around Patna. This will ensure smooth movement of trains in the capital and reduce the long wait at the outer.

New railway lines will connect new areas

Many areas of the state which were not fully connected with rail connectivity till now, will be connected under this scheme. The proposed new lines include projects like Aurangabad-Bihta Rail Line, Lalitgram-Veerpur Rail Line and Sakri-Forbisganj Rail Line. These lines will connect border and industrial areas to the main rail network, thereby boosting local trade and employment. The Fatuha-Bidupur Ganga Rail Bridge Project on River Ganga will strengthen connectivity between North and South Bihar. Its completion will speed up both goods transportation and traffic.

Doubling will increase speed

Doubling work is in progress on many busy railway sections of the state. There is a possibility of significant increase in the average speed of trains due to laying of additional lines on routes like Samastipur-Darbhanga railway section, Kiul-Gaya railway section and Barauni-Katihar railway section. It is estimated that after these improvements, the speed of trains can increase by about 30 percent.

‘Hi-tech’ network by 2031

The budget for the survey has been released by the Railway Board and the ground work is expected to accelerate after the Detailed Project Report (DPR) in the coming financial years. If the projects are completed within the stipulated time frame, Bihar’s rail network will emerge as more modern, faster and technologically advanced by 2031.
