Akshay Shinde, prime accused in Maharashtra's Badlapur sexual assault case, killed in an encounter

New Delhi. Akshay Shinde, the prime accused in the sexual abuse case in Badlapur, Maharashtra, died in a police encounter on Monday. A policeman was also injured in this encounter and has been admitted to the hospital. According to the information, Akshay Shinde was being taken from Taloja jail after being arrested in another case, when he snatched the gun of the policeman and opened fire. Shinde fired three bullets, one of which hit the policeman. After this, another policeman fired at Shinde in self-defense, which killed him.

Akshay Shinde was accused of sexually assaulting two minor girls at a school in Badlapur on August 12 and 13. There was a huge protest over the matter and the protesters blocked the railway track. The victim girls told their parents about the incident, after which the matter came to light. The SIT is investigating the case. The Badlapur police initially conducted the investigation, but after public outrage, the Maharashtra government formed the SIT. The High Court also took suo motu cognizance of the case and the court itself is monitoring the investigation.

Akshay Shinde was arrested on 17 August. Considering the seriousness of the case, the government had formed an SIT. Now after Shinde's death in the encounter, the investigation of the case has become even more important. The investigation report of the police and the SIT is awaited.
