Encounter started in Kathua also, DNA samples taken of two terrorists killed in Kulgam.

New Delhi. Two terrorists have been killed by security forces in a 12-hour long encounter in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir. This encounter was carried out in a joint operation of police, army and CRPF. However, during this period ASP and four soldiers were also injured. Two AK 47 rifles, five magazines, pistols and other arms and ammunition have been recovered from the hideout of the slain terrorists. DNA samples of both the killed terrorists have been taken. On the other hand, encounter has started in Kathua also. Firing is going on from both sides here. Security arrangements have been tightened. Every incoming and outgoing vehicle is being checked. A search operation is also being conducted in the area.

Giving information on Kulgam encounter, South Kashmir DIG Javed Ahmed Mattoo said that it was a joint operation of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and CRPF in which 2 terrorists were killed. A lot of arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession. It is very difficult to identify the dead bodies. Investigation is going on and DNA samples of the terrorists have been taken. DIG said that we had a specific input and as per that input, one of them is Umesh Ahmed Wani who is a resident of Chawalgam village of Kulgam. He was associated with a terrorist organization named TRF (The Resistance Front) and he joined it in 2020. He was active in Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag districts and several FIRs were registered against him.

DIG said that the second news we had was about Aaqib Sher Gojri, he was associated with the terrorist organization since August 2022 and was also involved in many terrorist activities. Several FIRs were registered against him in Kulgam, Pulwama, Budgam districts. He was also associated with TRF organization and was active in Pulwama, Shopian, Budgam, Anantnag districts for the last 2.5 years.
