MLA Abbas Ansari got bail in two cases from the Supreme Court, but will not be able to be released from jail.

New Delhi. Today is a day of relief for Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (Subhashpa) MLA Abbas Ansari from Mau, Uttar Pradesh. Abbas has got bail from the Supreme Court in the cases of money laundering and illegally meeting his wife while he was lodged in Chitrakoot jail. ED had arrested Ansari in 2022 on charges of wrongful transfer of money through two firms. Abbas Ansari, lodged in Kasganj jail, has got bail but he will not be able to come out of the jail yet. Actually, the case related to Gangster Act is still pending in the court, so for now Abbas Ansari will have to remain in jail.

The Supreme Court had issued notice on the special leave petition filed by Ansari against the Allahabad High Court order denying bail to Abbas in the last hearing. Supreme Court Justice M.M. A bench of Justice Sundaresh and Justice Pankaj Mithal granted bail to Abbas in the money laundering case. Whereas in the case of illegally meeting his wife in jail, the bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjwal Bhuiyan ordered bail. ED has alleged that Abbas Ansari used two firms M/s Vikas Construction and M/s Aagaaz to launder money.

According to the ED, the company allegedly grabbed government land in Mau and Ghazipur districts by resorting to forgery, fraud and criminal encroachment. The firm was used to securing public contracts, so whenever bidding was done by the immediate firm, the contracts would inevitably go to said firm. The said firm used to take loans from public banks for construction of warehouses, which were later given as rent to Food Corporation of India and Uttar Pradesh State Warehousing Corporation, and received many times the rent from them.
