Lieutenant Governor passes Omar Abdullah government's proposal to give full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir

New Delhi. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has today approved the proposal of Omar Abdullah government to give full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah had passed this proposal in the cabinet meeting on Thursday, two days ago after assuming the post of Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. After getting the green signal from the Lieutenant Governor, now Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will soon go to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah and will present before them the proposal to restore the status of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

Omar Abdullah says that with the restoration of full statehood, the people of the state will again get all their constitutional rights. Omar Abdullah government has called an assembly session in Srinagar on November 4. The members of the Council of Ministers have requested Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to address the first session of the Assembly. Let us tell you that the Narendra Modi government at the Center took a huge historic decision and made a law on August 5, 2019, removing Article 370 and 35A from Jammu and Kashmir. Along with this, the status of full state was also abolished. Jammu and Kashmir was given the status of Union Territory.

In the recently held assembly elections, Omar Abdullah had promised in the manifesto of his party National Conference that after the formation of the government, the state will again be given the status of a full state. Apart from this, it was also said that Section 370 and 35A should be brought back into the provision. In the election results, National Conference emerged as the largest party and its candidates won 42 seats. Congress, which contested the elections in alliance with NC, won 6 seats. Whereas PDP could win only 3 seats. BJP became the second largest party in the state and won 29 seats.
