New Delhi. The Narendra Modi government at the Center has nominated Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar as the chairperson of the National Commission for Women. Earlier, Vijaya had also held the responsibility of Chairperson of Maharashtra State Women Commission. Vijaya will be the first woman from Maharashtra to hold the post of Chairperson of the National Commission for Women. He will have the status of Union Minister of State and his tenure will be three years. Vijaya has been helping women victims of violence by raising their voices for a long time. She has formed a group named Saksha to help acid attack victim women. Apart from this, Vijaya has also been associated with Suhita Helpline Service, which works 24 hours for the safety of women.
