Said – People's court does not mean having opposition in the Parliament, CJI DY Chandrachud says supreme court need not act as opposition in parliament

Panaji. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court DY Chandrachud has given a harsh rebuke to those people who praise the court when the verdict is in favor and criticize the court when the verdict is against. The Chief Justice said in a program on Saturday that we are the people's court, but it does not mean that we are in the role of opposition in the Parliament. Chief Justice Chandrachud further said that he feels that in today's time there is a big gap between everyone. Whoever thinks that the decision is in favor, then the Supreme Court is a wonderful institution. He said that such people believe that if the decision is not in their favor then they should be defamed.

The Chief Justice said that this is a dangerous proposal. Because you cannot look at the role of the Supreme Court, its work from the perspective of results. Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud further said that the outcome of different cases can be in your favor or against you. He said that judges have the right to decide independently in individual cases on which side of the scale to throw the dice. Chief Justice Chandrachud also said that people have the right to criticize the court for inconsistency and error in the final result or legal principle. The problem arises when everyone criticizes just because the decision has gone against them.
