Due to increasing pollution in Delhi-NCR, GRAP 2 implemented, know important rules

New Delhi. The problem of air pollution in Delhi-NCR is once again becoming serious. Due to this, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has issued an order to implement Stage 2 of GRAP. This step has been taken after AQI (Air Quality Index) crossed 300. This order will come into effect from 8 am on October 22, 2024, in which diesel generators have been banned.

According to the order of CAQM, many strict instructions have been given to control air pollution, which will be necessary to follow. Let us know which rules are required to be followed under GRAP 2:

GRAP 2 Guidelines

1. Cleaning and water sprinkling of roads: Mechanical or vacuum sweeping and water sprinkling will be done daily on the identified roads to reduce dust.

2. Controlling road dust: Dust barriers and water sprinkling will be used to control road dust in heavy traffic corridors and sensitive areas. The dust collected at landfill sites will also be disposed of properly.

3. Strict monitoring of construction sites: Regular inspections will be conducted to ensure strict enforcement of dust control measures at construction sites.

4. Focus on hotspots: Special attention will be given to the pollution hotspots identified in Delhi-NCR and swift action will be taken to improve air quality.

5. Ban on diesel generators: Uninterrupted power supply will be ensured to reduce the use of diesel generators in the NCR region.

6. Control over operation of DG sets: The pre-determined schedule for regulated operation of diesel generator sets in industrial, commercial, and residential areas will be strictly enforced.

7. To streamline traffic: More policemen will be deployed at intersections and traffic congestion areas for smooth flow of traffic.

8. Public Awareness: People will be advised to take precautions to avoid pollution levels and its ill effects. For this purpose, alerts will be issued through newspapers, TV and radio.

9. Reduction in private vehicle usage: Parking charges will be increased to reduce the use of private vehicles.

10. Expansion of public transport: Metro services will also be increased along with additional CNG and electric buses so that people can use public transport more.

11. Ban on bio-mass burning: To avoid burning of bio-mass or MSW (solid waste) in the open during winters, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) will have to provide electric heaters for the security staff.

The pollution situation in Delhi-NCR is becoming serious, and these instructions have been issued with the aim of improving the safety of people and air quality. Under GRAP 2, it is everyone's responsibility to ensure that these rules are followed so that the impact of pollution can be reduced.
