Priyanka Gandhi's nomination date final, she is contesting elections from Wayanad.

New Delhi. The date of nomination of Congress candidate Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for the by-election on Wayanad Lok Sabha seat has been fixed. Priyanka Gandhi will file her nomination papers tomorrow, October 23. During this time, Congress Working Committee Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will also be present. In the Lok Sabha elections held this year, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had contested from Wayanad as well as Rae Bareli seat. Rahul Gandhi had won the elections from both Amethi and Wayanad seats, after which the big question before him was which of the two seats he should leave. Later Rahul had left the Wayanad seat, that is why Lok Sabha by-election is being held here.

Rahul Gandhi was in a dilemma because he had won the elections from Wayanad seat for the second consecutive time. Earlier in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, when Rahul Gandhi lost the election from his traditional Amethi seat to BJP's Smriti Irani, it was the Wayanad seat that saved his honour. Whereas Rae Bareli has also been a traditional seat of Congress from where Sonia Gandhi has been contesting elections. After losing Amethi, Congress fielded Rahul from Rae Bareli and gave Rahul the gift of victory by hand in hand with the people there. Rahul neither wanted to anger the people of Rae Bareli nor the people of Wayanad.

After much deliberation, it was decided by the Congress that Rahul should leave the Wayanad seat and Priyanka Gandhi should be fielded from there. Congress believes that success can be achieved only if a member of the Gandhi family contests the elections in place of Rahul, otherwise some other candidate may have to face defeat due to the anger of the people of Wayanad. Similarly, the condition of Congress in the country is not good and perhaps this is the reason why Priyanka Gandhi is also going to contest elections for the first time.
