Before Maharashtra Assembly elections, Swara Bhaskar's husband Fahad Ahmed joins NCP, will compete with Sana Malik on Anushaktinagar seat.

New Delhi. Samajwadi Party leader and actress Swara Bhaskar's husband Fahad Ahmed has joined Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SCP) in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. NCP state president Jayant Patil said that Fahad Ahmed has been made a candidate to contest from Anushaktinagar seat of Mumbai. On this seat, he will face Sana Malik, daughter of senior NCP leader Nawab Malik of Ajit Pawar.

After joining NCP, Fahad Ahmed said in the statement, “NCP's ideology matches that of Samajwadi Party. I thank Sharad Pawar Saheb that he has given me NCP ticket after taking permission from Akhilesh Yadav.” Fahad Ahmed had entered the Samajwadi Party in 2022 and made his mark as the President of SP Youth Wing. He has also been active in student organizations and has shown his participation in the fight for the rights of students belonging to backward classes, scheduled castes and tribes.

This time the fight on Anushaktinagar seat has become interesting because Nawab Malik, who is currently out of jail on bail, due to money laundering charges, Ajit Pawar faction did not give him the ticket this time. However, Malik has clarified that he will file nomination from his seat on October 29.

According to Samajwadi Party sources, SP first wanted to stake its claim from Anushaktinagar, but in the seat distribution under Mahavikas Aghadi, this seat went to NCP. On behalf of NCP, Jayant Patil said, “Fahad Ahmed is a well-educated and experienced young leader. He has served as activists across the country, and we think he is the perfect candidate for Anushaktinagar.” This seat came into existence in 2008 and in 2009, Nawab Malik was elected MLA from here for the first time. In 2014, Shiv Sena's Tukaram Kate defeated Malik, but in 2019, Malik won again. This time's election may prove to be a test of strength for both the NCP factions.
