New Delhi. PM Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Global Cooperative Summit 2024 at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi. During this, the PM stressed the need to link the cooperative movement with circular economy and promote international cooperation. He said that today women are playing a big role in the cooperative movement. In an effort to strengthen the cooperative sector, an additional 2 lakh multi-purpose societies are being formed. India sees a bigger role for cooperative societies in development in the future. For India, cooperation is the basis of culture, it is a way of life.

PM Modi said that today there is a need for further thinking on another topic, can we create large financial institutions globally that can finance cooperative societies across the world? ICA is already playing its role effectively, but it is important to go further in the future. The present global situation presents an important opportunity for the cooperative movement. Cooperative societies will also have to establish themselves as barriers to negativity for integrity and mutual respect in the world. For this we need to improve our policies and make strategies effectively.

The Prime Minister said, you must have heard about the important movement of self-help groups in India. This is a big movement for women empowerment with the participation of women. Today 10 crore women in India are members of self-help groups. In the last decade, the government has provided loans worth Rs 9 lakh crore to these groups. With this he has done a lot of work in the villages. Modi said that women's participation is going to be a big factor in global growth in this century. The more participation a country and society gives to women, the faster it will grow. Modi said that now we are forming multipurpose cooperative societies in 2 lakh villages where there is no society at present. We are expanding cooperatives from manufacturing to service sector.
