Bangladesh government writes letter to India for extradition of Sheikh Hasina
New Delhi. The interim government of Bangladesh has demanded from India the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Tauheed Hussain, Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh, said that a note verbal (diplomatic message) has been sent to India in this regard. In this letter, India has been demanded to hand over Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh. After violent protests in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina left the country to save her life and came to India on August 5 and took refuge. Since then Sheikh Hasina is in India.
An extradition treaty was signed between India and Bangladesh in 2013. Under this treaty, both the countries had agreed to hand over fugitive accused and prisoners to each other. The Bangladesh government has demanded the extradition of Sheikh Hasina citing this extradition treaty. However, there was also one thing in this extradition treaty that if there are political charges against the person to be extradited, then the extradition request can be rejected. The International Criminal Tribunal based in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, has already issued arrest warrants against Sheikh Hasina and several ministers and advisors of her government.
Let us tell you that since the coup in Bangladesh, minority Hindus are being continuously targeted. Incidents of vandalism in Hindu temples have become common every day. Bangladesh government chief Mohammad Yunus has turned a blind eye to these incidents. Not only this, he even said that the Indian media is exaggerating the news of attacks on Hindus. Recently, India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited Bangladesh. During this time, he had raised the issue of security of Hindus with Mohammad Yunus. Bangladesh had given him full assurance in this regard but did not take any action in this regard.
