Case of conspiracy to murder Khalistani terrorist Pannu, investigation committee recommended legal action against the accused
New Delhi. The high-level inquiry committee constituted by the Government of India has recommended legal action against a person. This step has been taken after investigating organized criminal and terrorist activities that undermine the security interests of both India and America. In the year 2023, a case of conspiracy to murder Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu came to light in New York. In this case, America had named Vikas Yadav, a former spy of the Indian intelligence agency RAW, who has dual citizenship of America and Canada.
Investigation and arrests
In December 2023, Vikas Yadav was arrested by Delhi Police in a kidnapping and extortion case. At the same time, another Indian citizen Nikhil Gupta associated with this conspiracy was arrested in Prague and extradited to America.

According to the Home Ministry, the inquiry committee, after a long investigation, has recommended expediting legal action against the accused and improving the procedures. It also emphasizes on ensuring coordinated action, so that such activities can be dealt with effectively in future.

America's response
US officials took serious note of the conspiracy to kill a Sikh separatist and raised it at the highest level with India. White House spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said that Indian officials expressed surprise at the knowledge of this conspiracy and called it against India's policy. The Home Ministry said that based on the committee's report, strict legal action will be ensured against the accused.
