Court's verdict today in Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College case, a doctor was raped and murdered, Court to pronounce judgment in rape and murder of doctor in RG Kar Medical College Kolkata

Kolkata. The verdict is to be announced today in the case of rape and murder of a doctor in RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. Additional District and Sessions Judge Anirban Das of Sealdah Court in Kolkata will pronounce the verdict. The verdict in the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case is coming in 57 days after the start of the hearing in the court. The court had completed the hearing in the RG Kar Medical College case on January 9, 2025. Kolkata Police had arrested its civic volunteer Sanjay Rai in the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case. However, Sanjay Rai had declared himself innocent during the hearing.

On August 9, 2024, an incident of rape and murder of a female doctor took place at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata. There was a lot of hue and cry in this matter. People were pointing fingers at West Bengal Police and Government. After investigation, Kolkata Police arrested its civic volunteer Sanjay Rai on August 10. The case of rape and murder of a doctor in RG Kar Medical College had also gone to the Calcutta High Court. Calcutta High Court had handed over the investigation work to CBI. After this, CBI arrested the accused Sanjay Rai and interrogated him. CBI had also conducted polygraph test of Sanjay Rai, accused in RG Kar Medical College rape and murder.

CBI presented 50 witnesses in Sealdah court. In this case, CBI has requested to give death penalty to the accused. The family members of the female doctor who was the victim of rape and murder in RG Kar Medical College had also made various allegations. He had said that the information was given late. The family members had also alleged that when they reached the medical college after doing RG, they were shown their daughter's body after a long time. Some people had protested against the demolition of the toilet near the incident site i.e. the seminar room in the RG Kar Medical College, saying that evidence was being destroyed. At the same time, when the doctors of RG Kar Medical College were protesting against the rape and murder of the doctor, the mob also attacked them. The mob also caused a lot of vandalism in the medical college.
