PM Narendra Modi distributed property cards under the Svamitva Yojana, interacted with many beneficiaries through video conferencing.

New Delhi. PM Narendra Modi launched the distribution program of 65 lakh property cards in more than 50,000 villages under the Swamitva scheme. During this, he also interacted with many beneficiaries from across the country through video conferencing. Modi said, despite people having property worth lakhs of crores in Indian villages, it was not valued that much because people did not have legal documents for their houses. In many places powerful people used to take over the houses. Banks also stayed four steps away from such property. This was going on like this for decades. It would have been good if earlier governments had taken steps in this direction. When our government was formed in 2014, we decided to tackle this challenge. No sensitive government could leave the people of its villages in this trouble, so we started the Swamitva Yojana.

Modi said, in the 21st century, the world is facing challenges like climate change, water scarcity, health crisis and epidemics. But another important challenge the world is grappling with is property rights and official property documents. Several years ago the United Nations conducted a study on real estate in several countries and it revealed that people in many parts of the world do not have proper legal documents for their property. The United Nations clearly said that to reduce poverty it is necessary that people should have the right to property. A leading economist wrote an entire book on the challenge of property rights, saying that the little property that people have in villages is dead capital.

The PM said, today our government is making sincere efforts to implement Gram Swaraj on the ground. Swamitva Yojana is significantly improving the development of villages and its implementation. Today, we will have clear maps. If the areas of population are known then it will help in making better plans for development works. There are many disputes as to which land belongs to Panchayat and which land is pasture land, now by getting property rights the problems of Gram Panchayats will also be solved.

The Prime Minister said, I was talking to the beneficiaries of the Swamitva Yojana. How has this scheme changed their lives? Now, with the legal documents, how are they getting help from banks for their properties? They owned property, lived there, but had no documents. This issue should have been amended by the government. Now, we have taken up this task and are working on it. I can see satisfaction, happiness and confidence on their faces in their conversations.
