FIR in Assam over Rahul Gandhi's “Indian State” statement, termed a “threat to national unity”
New Delhi. An FIR has been registered against Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi at Pan Bazar Police Station in Guwahati, Assam. The case has been registered regarding his recent statement, in which he had raised questions on the transparency of the electoral process and said that his fight is not only with the Bharatiya Janata Party and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, but also with the “Indian State”. This statement was given by Rahul Gandhi on January 15 at the inauguration ceremony of the new headquarters of Congress on Kotla Road in Delhi. An FIR has been lodged on behalf of the complainant Monjeet Chetia, in which the case has been registered under sections 152 and 197(1)D of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). These sections relate to cognizable and non-bailable offences.

Monjit Chetia says that Rahul Gandhi's statement can threaten the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India. According to Chetia, Rahul Gandhi “crossed the limits of free speech” and his statement poses a serious threat to national security and public order.
