New Delhi. A decision has been taken regarding linking the voter ID card to Aadhaar. It was agreed in the meeting between the Union Home Ministry, Election Commission, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and the Union Law Ministry today. UIDAI and Election Commission technical experts will soon start counseling about this. The Election Commission wants to remove the disturbances in the voter list by linking the voter ID to the Aadhaar so that the election process is transparent and fake voting can be curbed. After being linked to the Aadhaar of the voter ID, one person's possibility of casting votes at different booths will be over.
The Election Commission says that the voter ID card will be linked to Aadhaar as per Article 326 of the Constitution and Sections 23 (4), 23 (5) and 23 (6) of the Representation of the Public Promotion Act. In this regard, a meeting of Election Commissioner Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi in the Election House under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Union Home Secretary, Union Law Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Secretary of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, CEO of UIDAI and Technical Experts of Election Commission were held.
Recently, the Election Commission had informed that it is planning to link the voter ID to Aadhaar just like a PAN card. The central government has said that no time limit has been set to link the voter ID to Aadhaar, a further strategy will be prepared in this regard soon. This decision is a major part of the reform steps being taken by the Election Commission. However, the Commission says that it will complete this work as soon as possible so that all the fake voters are identified and their vote can be canceled.
