New Delhi. Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has issued a notice to former Congress President and Rajya Sabha MP Sonia Gandhi. A notice has been issued to Sonia Gandhi regarding adding her name to the voter list before taking Indian citizenship. The court has also sought answers from Delhi Police. Petitioner Vikas Tripathi alleges that Sonia Gandhi had acquired Indian citizenship in 1983 while her name was in the voter list of 1980. The court has fixed January 6, 2026 for the next hearing of this case.

Earlier on September 11, the court had rejected the petition filed against Sonia Gandhi in which an FIR was demanded to be registered against her. After which the petitioner filed a revision petition in the court of the Special Judge challenging the order of the Magistrate Court. It has been said in the petition that the name being registered in the voter list without acquiring citizenship shows that fake documents must have been used for this. The petitioner had also claimed that two years after her name was entered in the voter list, i.e. in 1982, the Election Commission had again removed Sonia Gandhi’s name from the voter list.

The petitioner’s lawyer had told the court that in 1982, the Election Commission had removed two names from the voter list, one of which was that of Sanjay Gandhi because he had died in 1981. While the other was of Sonia Gandhi. He said that the Election Commission probably came to know that fake documents were submitted to get the name added to the voter list and perhaps that is why Sonia Gandhi’s name was removed from the voter list. On behalf of the petitioner, an application was made to the court to direct the Delhi Police to register a case in this matter and investigate it and file a status report.
