Maharashtra Municipal Corporation election dates announced, voting to be held on January 15, results to be declared on January 16


New Delhi. The dates for the municipal elections to be held in Maharashtra have been announced. Announcing the election schedule, State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare said that elections for all 29 municipalities including BMC will be held on January 15, 2026. The results will be declared a day after voting on January 16. Voting for 32 Zilla Parishads and 336 Panchayat Samitis will also be held on January 15 only. According to the Election Commissioner, 10,111 voter centers will be set up across the state for voting. The revised voter list will be used in this election on July 1, 2025.

The Election Commissioner said that candidates can file nomination papers from December 23 to December 30. Nomination forms will be submitted offline. After this, the Election Commission will examine the applications till December 31. The last date for withdrawal of nominations will be January 2, 2026. Election symbol distribution and final candidature list for the Municipal Corporation elections will be released on January 3, 2026. After the announcement of the Election Commission, now all the political parties are going to speed up their election preparations.

Let us tell you that the tenure of municipal corporations in Maharashtra has already ended and these elections were to be held in the year 2022. But the elections kept getting postponed due to the issue of ward delimitation and OBC reservation. Recently, the Supreme Court had directed to complete the local body elections by 31 January 2026, after which the election schedule was announced by the Election Commission. Earlier in the 2017 elections, BJP had won 82 seats in BMC while Shiv Sena (undivided) had won 84 seats. Whereas Congress got 31 seats and NCP got 9 seats. Let us tell you that BMC elections have great importance in the politics of Maharashtra.
