Aatish Aziz’s surname is ‘Awasthi’, discrepancy found in SIR’s draft voter list in West Bengal, Aatish Aziz’s surname is ‘Awasthi’, discrepancy found in SIR’s draft voter list in West Bengal

New Delhi. After the release of the draft voter list of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in West Bengal, irregularities have come to light in it. The name of Aatish Aziz, son of CPI(M) state secretary Mohammad Salim, is written as Aatish ‘Awasthi’ in the draft list. Aatish himself has posted the draft voter list on social media in which the Hindu surname Awasthi has been added before his name. Aatish claimed that Awasthi is also written in his father’s surname. Calling it a serious mistake, Aatish has raised questions on the functioning of the Election Commission.

Aatish said that his father has been in politics for decades and has an identity, if this can happen to him then what would have happened to the common voters can be understood from this. Aziz said that his name is registered as a registered voter in Kolkata Port Assembly seat and his name in the official records is Atish Aziz. But while verifying the draft electoral roll, he found that a Hindu surname was written in front of his name. He said that I and my father Mohammad Salim were made Hindu Brahmins.

Aatish said that the booth-level agent of CPI (M) has brought this issue to the notice of the office of the Chief Electoral Officer. On the other hand, the Election Commission says that the matter is being investigated. If there has been an error on the part of the Commission, it will be rectified. Aatish raised questions on the SIR campaign and said that despite crores of rupees being spent in this process, what is the point of such mistakes. Let us tell you that after digitization of SIR form, the draft voter list has been released on 16th December.
