Four people were sentenced to life imprisonment and fined for burning a woman alive after gangraping her in Sambhal.
New Delhi. The court has today given its verdict in the case of gang rape of a woman and burning her alive in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh in 2018. The court has sentenced four convicts, Aram Singh, Bhona alias Kunwarpal, Gullu alias Jaiveer, Mahavir, to life imprisonment and has also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh seven thousand on each convict. One accused is a minor whose trial is going on separately. The court has ordered to pay Rs 2 lakh of the fine amount to the victim’s family and asked to deposit the remaining amount in the government treasury.

In this case, the seven-year-old daughter of the deceased woman and her cousin brother were witnesses. In Rajpura of Sambhal, at around 2.30 am on July 13, 2018, Aram Singh, Mahavir, Kumar Pal alias Bhona, Gullu alias Jaiveer and a minor from the same village had entered the woman’s house with an evil intention. At that time the woman was sleeping at home with her seven-year-old daughter and her husband had gone to Delhi for work. All of them together took turns to rape the woman in front of her daughter and ran away from there. Later the woman called the police but due to some reason the phone was not picked up. Then he called his cousin and informed him about the entire incident.

Meanwhile, the rapists again entered the woman’s house and dragged her to a nearby temple. The woman was burnt alive by pouring petrol in the fire pit built in the temple. When the victim’s cousin brother reached home with the police, the woman was not there. When a search was conducted nearby, the half-burnt body of the woman was found in the havan pot of the temple. The victim’s family members say that they had demanded hanging of the accused but the court sentenced them to life imprisonment.
