Christian Michel James’s lawyer argued in the court that there is a maximum punishment of seven years in this case and his client has already spent seven years in jail in this case, hence he should be released from jail. Considering these arguments of the defense lawyer, Special Judge Sanjay Jindal said that the accused cannot be kept in custody any longer in this case. The judge said that if there is no other case against him then do not keep him in jail beyond December 21, 2025 and ensure his release.

The court has given the date of December 22 for the hearing of the CBI case. If in the CBI case also the court issues the release order of accused Christian Michel James, then he will come out of jail. On December 4, 2018, Michel was extradited from Dubai and brought to India, since then he is in jail. This is a case of a deal worth Rs 3600 crore for purchasing helicopters for VVIP people and Michel is accused of being a middleman in the deal.
