Retired Punjab IG Amar Singh Chahal shot himself after being duped online to the tune of Rs 8 crore.
New Delhi. Amar Singh Chahal, a former Punjab cadre IPS officer, shot himself at his home in Patiala. He has been admitted to the hospital in critical condition where his condition remains critical. Amar Singh Chahal had retired from IG post from Punjab Police. He shot himself in the chest with a revolver. There was an incident of online fraud of Rs 8 crore with him. A 12-page suicide note has also been recovered from Chahal’s house which he has written in the name of Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav. In this letter he has also mentioned about the fraud that happened to him.

Amar Singh Chahal has appealed to the DGP of Punjab to take immediate cognizance of the online fraud case. In this entire matter, the police say that investigation is being done and statements of the family members are also being recorded. The forensic team inspected the spot and collected important evidence from there. It is noteworthy that Amar Singh Chahal is an accused in the case of police firing on Sikh devotees who were protesting against the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib in Kotkapura, Faridkot in 2015. SIT was formed under the leadership of Additional Director General of Police LK Yadav to investigate this matter.

This SIT had filed a charge sheet against Amar Singh Chahal and many other senior officers of Punjab Police in the Faridkot court on February 24, 2023. Patiala’s Senior Superintendent of Police Varun Sharma said that currently efforts are being made to find out why the former IPS attempted suicide. Along with this, the case related to online fraud which he has mentioned in the letter to the DGP will also be thoroughly investigated.
