Jnanpith Award-winning eminent litterateur and poet Vinod Kumar Shukla passes away


New Delhi. The country’s renowned litterateur, poet and storyteller Vinod Kumar Shukla, who was awarded the Jnanpith Award, passed away today. He was 89 years old and was ill for a long time. He was undergoing treatment at Raipur AIIMS, where he breathed his last. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai recently reached AIIMS and inquired about his well being. He was awarded the 59th Jnanpith Award in the year 2024 for his extraordinary contribution to Hindi literature. He was the 12th Hindi litterateur and the first writer from Chhattisgarh to receive this highest literary honor.

Vinod Kumar Shukla was born in January 1937 in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh. He completed his higher education from Jabalpur Agricultural University. After this, while working as a professor, he dedicated his life to Hindi literature. His first poetry collection ‘Almost Jaihind’ was published in the year 1971. Shukla is known for his simple language writing, sensitivity and unique style. He established many new dimensions of experimental writing in Hindi literature. He had equal command over both poetry and prose. He has a good number of fans not only in the country but also abroad.

Among the famous novels of Vinod Kumar Shukla, Servant Ki Kameez, Khilega To Dekhenge, Deewar Mein Ek Window Live Thi, Green Grass Thatched Hut and Dwarf Pahad, Ek Chuppi Jahath were prominent.
