Cannot be ignored, the culprits will have to be brought to justice, India takes tough stand on killing of Hindu citizen in Bangladesh; cannot ignore, culprits must be brought to justice

New Delhi. India has lodged strong objection to the increasing violence against minorities and killing of Hindu youth in Bangladesh. Commenting on the current situation in Bangladesh, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that it is the responsibility of the interim government of Bangladesh to maintain law and order and security. India is closely monitoring the developments and expresses deep concern over the ongoing hostility towards minorities, including Hindus, Christians and Buddhists. We strongly condemn the recent heinous murder of a Hindu youth (Dipu Das) and expect the interim government to bring the culprits to justice.

Jaiswal said that more than 2,900 incidents of violence against minorities have been recorded during the tenure of Mohammad Yunus’ interim government. These incidents cannot be dismissed or ignored as mere media exaggeration or political violence. Along with this, the spokesperson of the Indian Foreign Ministry has rejected the false anti-India story being spread in Bangladesh. He said that our stand on Bangladesh has been very clear and consistent from the beginning. India desires close and friendly relations with the people of Bangladesh.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson said, we stand for peace and stability in Bangladesh and have consistently called for free, fair, inclusive and credible elections in a peaceful environment. Responding to media questions on the return of BNP leader Tariq Rahman to his country after 17 years, just before the elections to be held in Bangladesh, Randhir Jaiswal said that India supports free and fair elections in Bangladesh and this development should be seen in this context.
