Indian Army’s strength will increase, defense procurement proposal worth Rs 79,000 crore approved
New Delhi. A meeting of the Defense Acquisition Council was held today under the chairmanship of Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. In this, defense procurement proposal worth Rs 79,000 crore was approved. Many senior military officers including the defense chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force also participated in this meeting. AON was approved for procurement of Lighter Munition System, Low Level Light Weight Radar, Long Range Guided Rocket Ammunition for Pinaka Multiple Launch Rocket System (MRLS) and Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction System Mk-II for Artillery Regiments for the Indian Army. Rajnath Singh said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Defense Ministry is making tireless efforts to strengthen India’s defense preparedness. The decisions taken today will be helpful in enhancing the operational capabilities of the armed forces.

For the Indian Air Force, approval was given for procurement of Automatic Take-Off Landing Recording System, Astra Mk-II Missiles, Full Mission Simulator and SPICE-1000 Long Range Guidance Kit etc. The addition of the Automated Take-Off Landing Recording System will address existing gaps in aerospace safety by providing high quality, all-weather automated recording of landings and take-offs. The extended range Astra Mk-II missiles will enhance the fighter aircraft’s ability to destroy enemy aircraft from long ranges. The full mission simulator for the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas will improve the training of pilots in a cost-effective and safe manner, while the SPICE-1000 will enhance the long-range precision strike capability of the Indian Air Force.
The Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) meeting held today agreed Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for various proposals of the three Services amounting to a total of about Rs 79,000 crore.

Similarly, the Indian Navy has been approved for the contract for procurement of Bollard Pull (BP) Tugs, High Frequency Software Defined Radio (HF SDR) Manpack and lease of High Altitude Long Range (HALE) Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS). The induction of BP tugs will assist naval ships and submarines in anchoring, moving out of anchorages and evading the enemy in narrow waters/ports. The HF SDR will enhance long-range secure communications during boarding and landing operations, while the HALE RPAS will ensure continuous intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance and reliable maritime domain awareness in the Indian Ocean region.
