Star rating of electrical appliances is changing from today, purchase of many appliances including fridge and AC will put a burden on your pocket, BEE has changed the star rating system for electrical appliances starting today AC and refrigerators may become more expensive
New Delhi. The new rules of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) are coming into effect from today. Because of this, if you are going to buy electrical appliances including a new fridge or AC, then you may have to spend more money. Under the new rules of BEE, the star rating of electrical appliances has now been changed. The electrical appliances which came with 5 star rating in the year 2025 will be considered as having 4 star rating in 2026. Due to this, companies manufacturing electrical appliances including new fridges and ACs can increase their rates.

After the reduction in GST in September 2025, the companies had reduced the price of AC by up to 10 percent. Because of this, people got the opportunity to buy AC at a cheaper price. At the same time, the prices of refrigerators and TVs also declined. Now, due to the new BEE rating, companies will have to make many changes in manufacturing electrical appliances. As a result, an increase of 5 to 10 percent may be seen in their prices. Many parts of electrical appliances including AC and refrigerator are still imported from abroad. Due to falling value of Rupee against Dollar, their rates may also increase and you may have to pay the consequences of this by paying more money.

Apart from this, the price of copper has also increased in recent times. Copper tubes are used in many electrical appliances including AC and refrigerator. Due to this also, there is a possibility of increase in the prices of such electrical appliances. However, due to the new star rating, your electricity bill is also likely to reduce further by installing these appliances. In such a situation, if you use the newly purchased AC and fridge for a long time, then despite paying the increased price, your electricity bill savings will also be more.
