Mumbai Voting for 29 municipal corporations including BMC in Maharashtra is to be held on January 15. Even before this, the ruling BJP led grand alliance has opened its account of victory. 68 candidates from BJP, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s Mahayuti have been elected unopposed. The victory of Mahayuti candidates happened because other candidates, including the opposition, withdrew their names in the respective wards.

According to the information, 44 councilors of BJP have won. Whereas, 22 candidates of Shiv Sena have won. At the same time, 2 candidates of Ajit Pawar have been elected unopposed. 14 BJP candidates have won in Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation of Maharashtra. Apart from this, 1-1 BJP candidates have been elected in Bhiwandi, Panvel and Jalgaon. 4 BJP candidates have won in Dhule and 3 in Ahilyanagar Municipal Corporation. In Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad also, 2-2 BJP candidates were victorious. At the same time, 7 candidates of Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena won in Thane Municipal Corporation, 6 in Jalgaon and 6 in Kalyan-Dombivli. Two candidates of Ajit Pawar’s NCP won in Ahilyanagar. A local Islamic party candidate has also won in Malegaon.

With its 68 candidates winning unopposed, the morale of the BJP led Mahayuti is definitely going to be boosted. Recently, Mahayuti had won a landslide victory in the Nagar Panchayat and Municipal Council elections of Maharashtra. Earlier, in the Maharashtra Assembly elections held in 2024, Mahayuti had defeated Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena-UBT, Congress and Sharad Pawar’s NCP faction strongly. The results of 29 municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra including BMC will come on January 16. Mahayuti claims that it is going to again give a strong defeat to the opposition’s Mahavikas Aghadi. From Mahavikas Aghadi, Sharad Pawar has joined hands with nephew Ajit Pawar for Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. This may also affect the opposition alliance.
