Maoist Patram Manjhi carrying bounty of Rs 1 crore and 15 other Naxalites killed in an encounter in Jharkhand.

New Delhi. Today in Jharkhand, security forces have killed 16 Naxalites in an encounter. Maoist Patram Manjhi alias Anal, carrying a bounty of Rs 1 crore, has also been killed in the firing that took place between Naxalites and security forces in the Naxal-affected Saranda forest of West Singhbhum district. Many automatic weapons have been recovered from the slain Naxalites. A joint team of CRPF’s Cobra Commando and Jharkhand Police carried out this operation. Jharkhand IG (Operations) Michael Raj confirmed the encounter and said that a search operation is still being conducted around the incident site.

Patram Manjhi was also known by the names Tufan alias Patiram Marandi alias Ramesh etc. Patram was originally a resident of Jharhabale village of Peertand police station area under Giridih district. Security forces had received intelligence information about Naxalites hiding in the inaccessible area of Saranda. After which the joint team laid siege in the forest. As soon as the Naxalites realized the presence of security forces, they started firing, to which the security forces gave a befitting reply.

Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar said on the operation conducted by security forces against Naxalites, more Naxalite incidents have happened in our state and neighboring states. Both the states have together decided that we will end it and we are working actively in this direction. In Saranda district of West Singhbhum district, central forces along with Jharkhand Police have almost broken the back of Naxalites. The Naxalite should surrender himself immediately. We think that Naxalites are also considering this. Everyone should come into the mainstream of the state and work towards progressing our state.
