Puri said, during the Parliament session today, my name was taken in the context of some developments related to the Epstein files. I want to clarify that all these facts are public. Three million emails have been released from the period when I took charge as India’s Ambassador to the United Nations in New York in May 2009 till I became a minister in 2017. During this period, only three or four meetings are mentioned and my interactions were purely professional, based on the Independent Commission on Multilateralism. I was invited to join the International Institute of Peace (IPI). My conversation with Epstein was on a professional level and was related to the Independent Commission on Multilateralism (ICM), which was chaired by the former Prime Minister of Australia and I was its Secretary General. Terje Larsen, my boss at IPI, knew Epstein and I met Epstein only as part of a delegation to discuss UN-related issues.

Hardeep Singh said that I had also met Reid Hoffman, the founder of LinkedIn, but only in the context of professional discussion on the Internet and business opportunities in India. It had nothing to do with any wrongdoing. All claims linking me to Epstein’s criminal activities are baseless. Puri said that there are two types of leaders, one who takes responsibility in the political system and devotes his life to social service and changing the country. Other leaders are those who sometimes stay in the country and when they come to Parliament, when someone gives them a concrete answer they leave the House. Even today he (Rahul Gandhi) left after his own speech.
