Bombay High Court On Vijay Mallya: Bombay High Court refuses to hear the petition of businessman Vijay Mallya, who fled to Britain after stealing money from banks, said- return to India first
Mumbai Bombay High Court has given a stern warning to fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya, accused of embezzling thousands of crores from banks. Bombay High Court made it clear that until Vijay Mallya returns to India, it will not listen to the businessman’s petition. Vijay Mallya has challenged the provisions of the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act (FEO) by filing a petition in the Bombay High Court. Vijay Mallya is in London after absconding from India. The British courts had approved the extradition of Vijay Mallya to India, but the businessman filed petition after petition and due to this the extradition is stalled.
On Vijay Mallya’s petition, Bombay High Court said that a person who is keeping himself away from the judicial process should not expect relief. Bombay High Court said that if Vijay Mallya has to get his petition heard, he will first have to return to India and face the law. It is clear from the stand of the Bombay High Court that the courts of the country do not want to give any kind of unwanted relief to Vijay Mallya. Vijay Mallya is accused of not repaying loans worth more than Rs 9000 crore received from banks by Kingfisher Airlines. Vijay Mallya had fled from India and gone to Britain in the year 2016. In the year 2018, the British court had approved the extradition of Vijay Mallya.

Vijay Mallya says that he will not get a chance for a fair trial in India. Vijay Mallya suffered another setback on April 9, 2025, when the appeal filed against the bankruptcy order against the businessman was rejected by the London High Court. In this bankruptcy order, the outstanding dues of the debtors were more than Rs 11000 crore. Vijay Mallya had also taken a loan from State Bank (SBI). However, it is believed that Vijay Mallya will be extradited from Britain to India in 2026. Vijay Mallya’s properties were confiscated and auctioned. Due to which a lot of money has been returned to the banks. At the same time, Vijay Mallya says that the banks have recovered more amount than what was to be given.
