Himanta Biswa Sarma: ‘Sonia Gandhi wanted to make me the CM of Assam… Rahul Gandhi stopped him’, claims Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Guwahati. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed on Tuesday that Sonia Gandhi had wanted to make him the CM of Assam in 2014. Himanta Biswa Sarma also said that he could not become CM because of Rahul Gandhi. Talking to the media, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Madam Sonia Gandhi had asked me to prepare to take oath as the CM of Assam. At that time 58 Congress MLAs wanted to make me the CM of Assam in place of Tarun Gogoi.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said that he had told Sonia Gandhi at that time that after the Ambuwachi fair, he would take oath as the CM of Assam. Then Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that Rahul Gandhi was abroad at that time. Rahul Gandhi talked to Congress leaders and that is why he was not made CM. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that as the CM of BJP, he has got the opportunity to serve Assam and Sanatan Dharma. Himanta said that if he had remained in Congress, he would not have got the opportunity to serve like this. Himanta Biswa Sarma told the media that if he ever writes a book in future, he will definitely tell the entire story in it.

Himanta Biswa Sarma joined BJP in the year 2015. Himanta Biswa Sarma is considered to have a major role in marginalizing Congress in the North-East. There are people close to Himanta Biswa Sarma in every party of the North-East. After winning the Assam Assembly elections for the second consecutive time in the year 2021, BJP made Himanta Biswa Sarma the CM. Before him, the CM of BJP government was Sarbananda Sonowal. Sarbananda Sonowal is currently a cabinet minister in the Modi government. Congress leaders make many allegations against Himanta Biswa Sarma. Recently, some party leaders including Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi had accused Himanta Biswa Sarma of occupying 12000 bighas of land. Himanta Biswa Sarma has filed a defamation case of Rs 500 crore against all of them.
