North India’s First Semiconductor Unit Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony: Whatever India is doing in the field of technology… PM Narendra Modi said at the foundation stone laying ceremony of North India’s first semiconductor unit

New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone of North India’s first semiconductor unit today. India Chip Private Limited is a joint venture project of HCL and Foxconn at Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority in Gautam Buddha Nagar, UP. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on this occasion that this ‘decade’ is India’s ‘techade’. Whatever India is doing in the field of technology in this decade will form the basis of our capability in the 21st century. India is today making unprecedented investments in every technology that will decide the future of humanity. The development of a strong semiconductor ecosystem in India is also a good example of this. India may have started its journey late in the semiconductor sector, but today we are moving forward at a very fast pace.

PM said, everyone knows that in the 20th century, the country which had oil, brought both prosperity and power. In the 21st century, a small chip has this power. It is in the skills and materials related to it. During the Corona pandemic, we have seen how short the supply chain of small chips has been. During this time, there was a brake on the supply of chips, factories in the world came to a halt, economies started collapsing. India also learned from that crisis and started trying to convert it into an opportunity. We decided that India has to be self-reliant in the field of chip manufacturing. Today’s program is a reflection of this vision. India is now trying to catch up with the top countries of the world in terms of the processing power required to run the modern world. That means India is working together on both software and hardware aspects and it is a matter of pride for all of us that Uttar Pradesh is also going to become a big center of India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

Modi said that today India is working very fast on the goal of development and I have also said from the Red Fort that India does not have time to stop. From the beginning of the year 2026, India has increased its pace. Lakhs of youth joined the Vikas Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue on 12 January, and on 16 January we celebrated National Startup Day. In the India Energy Summit held in January itself, India attracted the attention of the world with its potential, then the budget came to give impetus to developed India and now this week is also proving to be historic for India. Heads of state of many countries of the world and leaders of the technology world gathered in Delhi for the Global AI Impact Summit. In this summit, the world saw our vision in AI, saw and appreciated India’s AI potential. This summit ended yesterday itself and now here we are becoming a part of such a big event related to India’s semiconductor eco system.
