New Delhi. PM Narendra Modi in his program ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on Sunday warned people about cyber fraud and told ways to avoid it. PM Modi said in Mann Ki Baat that incidents of digital fraud and digital arrest keep happening. Common people become victims of fraud done through phone or message. He took the name of KYC as a measure to avoid such online frauds. PM Modi said that banks do KYC many times. Which is not a banking process but a way to protect the common people.

In Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi advised people to get KYC done only through official methods like bank app, bank branch or website. PM Modi also advised people to keep changing their online banking passwords regularly. Also, give personal information only to officially recognized officers. Let us tell you that other banks including Reserve Bank of India continuously tell people about ways to avoid cyber fraud through social media and messages. However, there are many people who lose lakhs of rupees by getting their bank account closed, committing a crime and getting trapped in fraudulent methods like changing the SIM after getting OTP.

The Supreme Court has also taken cognizance of the cases of cyber fraud and digital arrest. The Supreme Court had asked the Central Government about the measures adopted to stop such frauds. On which the Central Government said that till now an amount of about Rs 53000 crore has been withdrawn from people’s accounts through fraud. According to the Home Ministry, maximum 75 percent of fraud cases were committed through fake investment schemes, digital arrest and online fraud. Home Ministry figures show that more than 28.15 lakh cases of cyber fraud were registered in the year 2025. Whereas, in 2024 their number was 22.68 lakh.
