Purvanchal Expressway Sleeper Bus Accident: Sleeper bus overturns on Purvanchal Expressway in Lucknow, 5 passengers killed, many others injured

New Delhi. 5 passengers died tragically when a sleeper bus overturned on Purvanchal Expressway in Lucknow while 16 others are said to be injured. This accident occurred at the 11.4 kilometer point of Purvanchal Expressway under Gosaiganj police station area. According to initial information, it is being said that the driver suddenly dozed off due to which the bus went out of control and overturned. At the time this accident occurred, the speed of the bus was around 80 kilometers per hour. The injured have been taken to the hospital for treatment where the condition of some passengers is said to be critical.

The bus which met with the accident was going from Ludhiana in Punjab to Darbhanga in Bihar. As soon as the bus turned there was an outcry. As soon as information about the incident was received, the police reached the spot and got involved in relief and rescue. People trapped inside the bus were taken out. Glass from windshields around the scene shattered and the bus was badly damaged. This incident happened around 4:30 pm on Monday evening. The death toll may increase as the condition of some of the injured is serious.

Due to the accident, movement on the expressway came to a halt and vehicles got delayed. With the help of a crane, the police moved the bus to the roadside and then cleared the road so that traffic could resume. At present the deceased have not been identified. The bodies of the deceased passengers have been sent for post-mortem. The administration has also started investigation into this accident to find out whether this accident happened due to the negligence of the driver or due to some fault in the bus it went out of control and overturned. Information is being collected regarding the deceased and their families are being informed.
