Supreme Court On NCERT Book: ‘Judiciary is bleeding due to your firing…this is a well-thought-out method’, CJI’s bench is strict on NCERT book issue, seeks answer
New Delhi. The Supreme Court bench comprising CJI Surya Kant, Justice Jaimalya Bagchi and Justice Vipul Pancholi heard the chapter ‘Corruption in Judiciary’ in the NCERT 8th class book on Thursday. The Supreme Court bench does not seem to be giving relief in this matter. The Supreme Court bench said that it has prima facie observed that mentioning corruption in the judiciary in the NCERT Class 8 book can amount to criminal contempt of the court.
The Supreme Court has issued show cause notices to the Secretary of the School Education Department of the Education Ministry and the Director of NCERT. In the notice, the Supreme Court has asked why action should not be taken under the Contempt of Courts Act or any other law? As soon as the hearing began, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, on behalf of the Education Ministry, apologized unconditionally to the bench. On this, the court said that there has been no apology in the statement issued by NCERT. The CJI said that this is a deliberate way to lower the dignity of the judiciary. Chief Justice Surya Kant said that being the head of the judiciary, the hearing in this case will continue until he is satisfied.

Seeing the strict stance of the Supreme Court, NCERT said to apologize unconditionally. The Solicitor General told the court that 32 of the printed books had been sold. Which have been withdrawn. The rest of the books have also been dumped. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the court that the two people who had prepared the chapter would never be reunited. On this CJI Surya Kant said that he fired the bullet and the judiciary is shedding blood. CJI said that when we are attacked, we know how to respond. He said that you are talking about taking back this book, but it is on social media and in the market. Chief Justice Surya Kant said that he has also received a copy of the NCERT book. He said that if you are teaching the teaching community and students that the judiciary is corrupt, then what message will it send? What will teachers and parents of children learn from this?
