New Delhi. 18 people have died and 6 others have been injured due to a massive explosion in a firecracker factory in Kakinada district of Andhra Pradesh. The injured have been taken to the nearest hospital via ambulance where the condition of some is said to be critical. It is being told that when the laborers were working in the factory to make firecrackers, for some reason a fire broke out there and then the gunpowder exploded. The police have taken the bodies of the deceased and sent them for post-mortem and have started investigating the matter.

The explosion was so powerful that many people present there were torn to pieces. Dead bodies of people were found scattered in the fields surrounding the factory. Due to fire, the entire factory has been burnt to ashes. According to eyewitnesses, the echo of the explosion was heard far away. Even the windows and doors of the buildings surrounding the factory shook. At the time of the accident, about 30 to 35 workers were working inside the factory. As soon as information about the incident was received, the relief and rescue team reached the spot. The fire brigade team started extinguishing the fire and after a lot of hard work the people trapped in the factory could be rescued.

The forensic team also reached the spot and collected evidence. At present, efforts are being made to find out whether safety rules were being violated in the factory. Things will become clear only after investigation. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has expressed grief over this incident. The CM has spoken to higher officials regarding the incident and has ordered to provide immediate assistance to the victims. CM is keeping an eye on the relief works. He has assured all possible assistance to the affected families.
