New Delhi. An American submarine sank the Iranian naval ship ‘IRIS Dena’ with a torpedo attack near Sri Lanka. After which many opposition parties including Congress are creating ruckus in India. Congress and opposition parties are alleging that the Iranian ship had come to India for the International Fleet Review and hence was a guest. Opposition parties are raising questions that the Modi government did not do anything to save the Iranian ship from being sunk. Government sources told Hindustan Times newspaper that IRIS Dena had participated in the International Fleet Review held in Visakhapatnam from 16 to 25 February 2026. Whereas, America and Israel started attacking Iran from 28 February. According to sources, Iran’s ship IRIS Dena had left India’s territorial waters and reached international waters on February 25 itself. Sources also say that the Iranian ship and its crew were guests of India only from 16 February to 25 February. Also, this ship did not ask for any help from India before or after departure.

Iran’s naval ship IRIS Dena was attacked with a torpedo by America’s Virginia class nuclear-powered submarine on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. This attack on the Iranian ship took place near Galle, Sri Lanka. The attack resulted in the sinking of the IRIS Dena and the death of at least 82 crew members. Whereas, the Sri Lankan Navy rescued 32 and admitted them to the hospital. Many more sailors deployed on this ship are still reported missing. Whose search is going on.
