Supreme Court CJI Gets Angry At Lawyer: Do you draft such petitions at midnight? Enraged at the petition without solid legal basis, the CJI scolded the lawyer.

New Delhi. The Supreme Court today slammed a lawyer for filing petitions without solid legal basis. Chief Justice Justice Surya Kant asked the lawyer whether he drafts such petitions at midnight? In fact, the petitioner had sought instructions to form a committee to investigate whether onion and garlic are tamasic food or not. Apart from this, some other petitions were also filed. The Supreme Court reprimanded this and said that if the petitioner had not been a lawyer, we would have imposed a strict penalty. Also warned that next time such a baseless petition is brought, let us see what we do.

The bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi told lawyer Sachin Gupta that such petitions only increase the burden of the courts. In the petition filed under Article 32 of the Constitution, the Supreme Court was requested to form a committee and investigate whether onion or garlic comes in Tamasik food and what are the negative elements in it. The petitioner also said that people of the Jain community consider onion, garlic and root vegetables as tamasic food and do not eat them. The Supreme Court bench asked why they want to hurt the sentiments of the Jain community.

To this the lawyer replied that this is a common issue and a case of divorce had come to light in Gujarat between a couple for allegedly eating onions. Apart from this, in his other petitions, lawyer Sachin Gupta had sought instructions to regulate the harmful elements in liquor and tobacco, instructions to make property registration mandatory and instructions regarding the declaration of classical languages. The court has rejected all these petitions. The bench also said that the filing of all these petitions was done without thinking.
