Opposition Submit Notice In Parliament For Removal Of CEC Gyanesh Kumar: Notice In Parliament For Removal Of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Signed By 193 Opposition MPs

New Delhi. A notice has been given in Parliament by Trinamool Congress to remove the country’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar from the post. This notice has signatures of 193 MPs from opposition parties. Among those who signed the notice are 130 Lok Sabha members from the opposition while 63 are Rajya Sabha members. Probably, this is the first time in the history of Indian democracy that a notice has been brought in both the Houses of Parliament for the removal of a Chief Election Commissioner from the post. In this notice given by the opposition MPs under the leadership of TMC, many allegations have been made against the Chief Election Commissioner.

Gyanesh Kumar has been accused by the opposition of biased and discriminatory conduct and massive voter disenfranchisement. Besides, questions have also been raised on Gyanesh Kumar regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of the voter list. Apart from this, it has also been said in the notice that when TMC leaders went to meet him on the issue of SIR in Bengal, he misbehaved. The opposition has also accused the Chief Election Commissioner of deliberately obstructing the investigation of election fraud and favoring the BJP. The opposition alleges that the Election Commission wants to benefit the Central Government and the BJP by deleting the names of voters from the voter list through the SIR process.

Let us tell you that according to the rules, for the removal of the Chief Election Commissioner, the notice given in the Lok Sabha must be signed by at least 100 MPs and the signatures of 50 Rajya Sabha MPs are required. Now after investigation, if this notice is accepted in the Parliament, then the opposition needs a special majority to get it passed. For this, there should be a majority of the total number of members of the House and two-thirds majority of the members present and voting.
