2020 Delhi Riots Case: Relief to Minister Kapil Mishra in Delhi riots case, petition demanding registration of FIR rejected

New Delhi. Delhi government minister and BJP leader Kapil Mishra has got a big relief from the court today in the case related to the 2020 Delhi riots. Rouse Avenue Court has rejected the petition demanding registration of FIR against Kapil Mishra. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwani Panwar said that it is inappropriate to order registration of FIR on the basis of available facts. This petition was filed by Mohammad Ilyas, resident of Yamuna Vihar. The petitioner had alleged that on 23 February 2020, Kapil Mishra was blocking the road with some of his supporters in Kardampuri area. During this time, his supporters harmed street vendors and broke their vehicles.

Mohammad Ilyas had also claimed in the petition that the then DCP was also with Kapil Mishra. At the same time, Delhi Police told the court during the hearing that intensive investigation has been done in the cases related to the riots. In all the records available, no concrete evidence has been found that Kapil Mishra had any role in the riots. Rouse Avenue Court accepted the arguments of Delhi Police and rejected the petition.

Earlier, a lower court had ordered an investigation into Kapil Mishra’s role in the riots. However, later the Sessions Court canceled the order of the lower court. Let us tell you that there were riots in North-East Delhi in February 2020 in protest against the Citizenship Act. 53 people lost their lives and many were injured. The riots continued for about a week and many incidents of arson and violence took place. Later, Delhi Police arrested many accused related to the riots and sent them to jail.
