Assembly Polls Date For 5 States Declared: West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry assembly election dates announced, know when and where the votes will be cast and when the counting will take place.

New Delhi. The Election Commission on Sunday announced the dates for the assembly elections of four states and one union territory, including West Bengal. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar along with Election Commissioners Dr. Vivek Joshi and SS Sandhu announced the dates of assembly elections 2026 in the five states West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala. Along with this, Model Code of Conduct has been implemented at all these places. The assembly election results of these five places will have far-reaching implications for the ruling BJP-led NDA at the Center and the opposition’s Indi alliance.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that Assam One phase will take place on Thursday, April 9. Kerala Voting will also be held on all 140 assembly seats on April 9. Puducherry Voting will also be held on 30 seats on April 9. Tamil Nadu Voting will take place in a single phase on 23 April on 234 assembly seats. Whereas, west bengal Out of total 294 assembly seats, voting will be held on 152 seats on April 23 and 142 seats on April 29. Counting of votes will take place in these four states and Union Territory Puducherry on May 4. Along with these assembly elections, assembly by-elections of six states will also be held. The Chief Election Commissioner said that SIR is being conducted under Article 326 of the Constitution to prepare a pure voter list. He thanked all the officers associated with the important work of SIR. He told that there are about 17.4 crore voters in four states. Whereas, the total number of seats is 824. He said that all voters will get an opportunity to cast their vote easily. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar called upon the youth to vote enthusiastically in the four states and the Union Territory of Puducherry.

The tenure of West Bengal Assembly is till 7 May 2026. At the same time, the current tenure of Assam Assembly will end on May 20. The current term of the Tamil Nadu Assembly will end on May 10. Whereas, the tenure of Puducherry Assembly will end on 15 June 2026 and the tenure of Kerala Assembly will end in May. There are 294 seats in the West Bengal Assembly. TMC has been ruling here for a long time. There are 126 seats in the Assam Assembly. BJP government has been formed here for the last two times. Last time the DMK led opposition alliance formed the government in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. There are 234 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. Whereas, there is NDA government in Puducherry. Elections will be held on 30 seats here. Whereas, Left Front government has been formed in Kerala twice. There are 140 seats in the Kerala Assembly.
