Strict security arrangements in West Bengal to prevent violence following release of the first supplementary voter list.
Kolkata. The first supplementary voter list in West Bengal is scheduled to be released on Monday, March 23, 2026. Therefore, the West Bengal government has asked the DMs and police officers of all the districts for strict vigil and tight security arrangements. The West Bengal government has asked the officers to take precautions to prevent any possible uproar and violence after the release of the first supplementary voter list.

It is being told that the Election Commission will release the first supplementary voter list on Monday evening. Actually, Special Intensive Verification (SIR) of voters took place in West Bengal. After SIR, names of 58 crore voters were deleted in West Bengal. Whereas, names of 60 lakh 6 thousand voters were left pending due to logical discrepancy. The Supreme Court has deployed more than 700 judicial officers from West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha to decide the cases of these more than 60 lakh voters. These officers are taking decisions about voters having logical discretion. According to the information, till now judicial officers have taken decision on 25 lakh voters. Whose supplementary list will now be released.

Assembly elections are to be held in West Bengal in two phases on 23 and 29 April. The Election Commission says that the decision regarding all the voters with logical discrepancy will be taken even before the first round of voting. Apart from online, the first supplementary voter list will be kept for viewing at all 80000 polling booths of West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee’s TMC, ruling the state, alleges that the Election Commission, in collaboration with the BJP, is deleting the names of its voters. At the same time, BJP says that Mamata Banerjee’s TMC government has given shelter to Bangladeshi infiltrators and Rohingya by giving them fake documents etc. and has made them a vote bank. The politics of West Bengal has heated up due to these allegations and counter-allegations. Mamata Banerjee had recently staged a strike for five days on the issue of deletion of voters’ names.
