New Delhi. The Supreme Court has constituted a three-member Special Investigation Committee (SIT) under the leadership of Haryana IPS officer Nazneen to investigate the rape of a four-year-old girl in Gurugram. The court has reprimanded the insensitive attitude of the police in this case. The Supreme Court has issued a show cause notice to the Gurugram Police Commissioner and other police officers involved in the investigation of the case. He has been asked why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for his insensitivity in the case and reducing the offense from Section 6 to Section 9 of the POCSO Act? Let us tell you that Section 6 has a provision for minimum 20 years to life imprisonment or death penalty. Under Section 9, the punishment can be up to 5-7 years.

A bench headed by Supreme Court Chief Justice Surya Kant also issued show cause notices to the members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) asking them to remove them from the committee for their insensitive conduct in dealing with the child. Apart from this, the court has also issued a show cause notice to Dr. Babita Jain of Max Hospital, Gurugram for changing the contents of her report regarding the investigation of the victim girl. The court said that the above officers have repeatedly tortured the victim girl.

The court has also directed the District Judge of Gurugram to keep the proceedings of this case in a POCSO court headed by a senior woman judicial officer. The next hearing of the case will now be on April 6. The CJI said that after the February 2 incident, on February 5, the CWC spoke to the parents of the victim girl over phone. If he had any respect for the victim, he should have gone to the victim’s house and not called her to the office. The girl was interrogated repeatedly over the past month, many times in the absence of her parents. This is the height of insensitivity shown in this matter.
