Patna. A major accident occurred in Nalanda district of Bihar on Tuesday. A sudden stampede broke out in Shitala Mata temple located in Bihar Sharif of Nalanda district. This temple is in Maghada area. There is news of death of many people including women in the sudden stampede in Shitala Mata temple. Whereas, around a dozen people have been injured. There was a huge crowd in the temple on the occasion of Shitala Ashtami. A fair is also organized outside here. The police have admitted the people injured in the Shitala Mata temple stampede to the Model Hospital of Bihar Sharif.

Eyewitnesses told the media that there was a huge crowd in Shitala Mata temple on the last Tuesday of Chaitra month. During this time, for some reason a stampede broke out here. Within no time people started falling on each other. The crowd attacked the people who had fallen down and due to this situation, many devotees lost their lives due to suffocation. Police were also present on the spot. Immediate relief and rescue work was started. Till the time of writing the news, the administration was trying to identify those who lost their lives in the stampede at Sheetala Mata temple.

It is not yet known what was the reason behind the stampede in Shitala Mata temple. In the past too, people have lost their lives in stampedes in many temples due to overcrowding. Due to the huge crowd, all the arrangements made by the administration and police come to a standstill. In most of the cases, stampedes have been seen due to crowd pushing or spreading of rumours. Stampedes also occur due to the eagerness of devotees to have early darshan in temples.
