Amit Shah in Lok Sabha on Women’s Reservation and Delimitation Bill: Opposition to delimitation means opposition to the increasing seats of SC-ST, Amit Shah said in Lok Sabha, Indi alliance surrounded by ifs, buts, buts, buts
New Delhi. During the discussion on the bills related to Women’s Reservation Act and delimitation in the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, there is a provision for delimitation from time to time in our Constitution. There is also a provision to increase SC-ST seats through delimitation. In a way, those who are opposing delimitation are also opposing the increase in SC and ST seats. Shah said that if we listen carefully to this discussion, no one has opposed the constitutional amendment for women’s reservation. Everyone has said that they are in favor of women’s reservation and we welcome this constitutional amendment. But if we look at it closely, all the members of the Indi alliance have clearly opposed women’s reservation by using if, but, but, but.

As soon as Shah said this, the opposition members started creating ruckus, then the Home Minister asked them to be patient and asked them to explain by taking the name of Akhilesh Yadav. After this, the Home Minister took his point forward and said, in these three bills, I want to make the purpose clear. The first objective of the government and our leader Narendra Modi is to implement this constitutional reform that empowers women in a timely manner and conduct the 2029 elections with women’s reservation. Its second objective is to implement the spirit of the principle of one person, one vote and one value which was decided by our Constituent Assembly at the foundation of our democracy. Responding to the opposition’s questions, the Home Minister said, many members expressed various apprehensions as to why delimitation should be brought now? Let me tell you that it is mentioned in the Nari Shakti Vandan Act that reservation for women will be ensured in the delimitation that will be done after the census to be held after 2026.

The Home Minister said, now they (opposition) say why such a mention was made while bringing the bill? We did not do this. When Indira Gandhi was in government, she had frozen it, she increases the number of frozen seats only then the Nari Shakti Vandan Act is implemented, hence we brought it. First of all, in 1972, the government of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi brought the Delimitation Bill, increasing the seats from 525 to 545 and then it was frozen. To save power in 1976, during the Emergency, delimitation was banned by the 42nd Amendment. Indira ji was the Prime Minister, she brought a law to stop delimitation, but how powerful are they today that they are trying to stop delimitation by sitting in the opposition. Even at that time, Congress had deprived the people of the country from delimitation and even today Congress is depriving the people of the country from delimitation.
