West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026: In the second round of West Bengal Assembly elections, voting will be held on 142 seats in Mamata Banerjee’s stronghold, will Shubhendu Adhikari be able to defeat TMC supremo in Bhawanipur?


Kolkata. The second round of voting in the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026 is tomorrow i.e. on Wednesday. Voting will be held in the second round on 142 seats of the West Bengal Assembly. The seven districts where voting is to be held in the second round are considered to be the strongholds of Mamata Banerjee’s TMC. In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, TMC had strongly defeated BJP on these 142 seats. In such a situation, this time BJP has made efforts to win most of these seats in the second round.

Voting will be held on 17 seats in Nadia district in the second round of West Bengal Assembly elections. At the same time, there are 33 seats in North 24 Parganas and 31 seats in South 24 Parganas. There are 11 seats in Kolkata. Whereas, there are 16 assembly seats in Howrah district, 18 in Hooghly district and 5 in Purba Bardhaman district. Mamata Banerjee’s TMC had won 123 out of 142 seats here in 2021. Whereas, BJP could get only 18 seats. The biggest contest in this round is on Bhawanipur seat of Kolkata. Where BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari is in front of CM Mamata Banerjee. Shubhendu Adhikari had last defeated Mamata Banerjee from Nandigram seat.

In the first round of West Bengal Assembly elections, voting was held on 152 seats on April 23. In the first round, 93.13 percent voters had exercised their franchise. Most of the districts where voting took place in the first round of West Bengal Assembly elections are considered to be BJP strongholds. In the year 2021, out of these 152 seats, BJP had won 59. Whereas, Mamata Banerjee’s TMC got 92 seats. There are a total of 294 seats in the West Bengal Assembly and 148 MLAs are required for majority here. BJP claims that it is winning more than 110 seats in the first round, but the real victory will be considered only if BJP is successful in defeating Mamata Banerjee’s TMC in the second round.
