Steps To Curb Digital Arrest Fraud Cases: Center will tighten the noose on fraudsters who cheat innocent people of crores of rupees by pretending to be digital arrest, Center files report in Supreme Court


New Delhi. Modi government has prepared to tighten the noose on those who cheat people by pretending to be digital arrest. According to news channel NDTV, Modi government has submitted a report in this regard to the Supreme Court. In this report, it has been told what steps can be taken to save innocent people from the fraud called digital arrest. Attorney General R. Venkataramani has asked the Supreme Court to approve the implementation of the measures mentioned in the report. The report said that the Supreme Court should direct the Department of Telecommunications to rapidly implement user identification and biometric identification for purchasing SIMs of telecom companies.

Apart from this, it has been said in the report that a mechanism should be created to immediately block SIM cards used in cyber crime. Apart from this, telecom companies should share real time data with law enforcement agencies. The report talks about introducing SIM binding mechanism, identifying and stopping scam calls that last for a long time, implementing additional security features, making it mandatory to identify the hardware used in fraud i.e. phone, camera etc. Apart from this, it has been suggested that the data of the accounts which are deleted should be kept safe for at least 180 days.

Let us tell you that the bench headed by CJI Surya Kant has started the hearing by taking suo motu cognizance to stop the digital arrest fraud. CJI Surya Kant had expressed deep concern over lakhs of rupees being stolen from innocent people through digital arrest. In this case, the Home Ministry had told the Supreme Court that by the year 2024, swindlers had extorted Rs 3000 crore from people in the name of digital arrest. The Supreme Court had asked the CBI to investigate all the cases of digital arrest. The court has said that the states which have not given permission to CBI should give consent for investigation under the IT Act 2021 in their jurisdiction.
