New Delhi. Counting of votes for West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry assembly elections is scheduled to take place on Monday, May 4, 2026. Voting for assembly elections was held on 9 April in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry. Whereas, in Tamil Nadu, votes were cast for the assembly elections on 23 April. At the same time, in West Bengal, voting was conducted in two rounds on 152 seats on 23 April and 142 seats on 29 April. After conducting SIR at all these places, assembly elections were conducted.

The tenure of West Bengal Assembly is till 7 May 2026. At the same time, the current tenure of Assam Assembly will end on May 20. The current term of the Tamil Nadu Assembly will end on May 10. Whereas, the tenure of Puducherry Assembly will end on 15 June 2026 and the tenure of Kerala Assembly will end in May. There are 294 seats in the West Bengal Assembly. TMC government has been formed here for three consecutive times. There are 126 seats in the Assam Assembly. BJP led NDA government has been formed here for the last two times. The DMK-led opposition alliance formed the government in Tamil Nadu, which has 234 assembly seats, in 2021. At the same time, NDA had formed the government in Puducherry last time. There are 30 assembly seats in Puducherry. Whereas, in Kerala, which has 140 assembly seats, the Left Front government has been formed twice.

Five out of eight exit polls about West Bengal claimed BJP’s victory. Whereas, three exit polls have said that TMC government will be formed in West Bengal for the fourth consecutive time and Mamata Banerjee will take over the post of CM. Now the election results will show to what extent the exit poll predictions are correct.
